3.0 out of 5 stars ALMOST THERE, March 7, 2011

I purchased one of these, an ROS-06, when it became available at a lower price as a customer return in "mint" condition. Shipping was delayed due to bad weather in the northeast, but after finally receiving it and observing that it had survived shipping unscathed, it was, indeed, mint.

Out of the box, my first impression was that perhaps I'd finally come across a true winner; the fit and finish were superb all around. The action was a bit high for my touch, making what felt like a typical 12-52 string set hard to play fingerstyle, though bold and full range sounding when strummed. (Better too high than too low, since the former is more easily addressed.) At that point, I could only echo the sentiment of another reviewer of this model, who could only wonder how they make a profit on such quality materials and workmanship at that price range.

Further into my maiden recital on the instrument, however, I noticed that the intonation was sharp in the upper frets,... Read more

The sound and balance of this instrument is excellent. Each string is well articulated and clear when strumming or playing finger style. Volume is much better than I expected for this size instrument.

I have bought a lot of guitars. Generally when I buy a guitar under $500 I don't expect much for setup and have a collection of files and tools to make the necessary adjustments. This instrument was set up perfectly with a nice low action and good intonation. The finish of the instrument was excellent and above what is expected at this price range.

The guitar does have a very chunky neck. I find it very comfortable for chords but some with smaller hands may not like it as much. Since this guitar is designed with finger style players in mind the spacing between strings is also wider.

If you ever thought this type of instrument might be your cup of tea, this guitar would be the perfect entry ticket into the style, I certainly am impressed with the... Read more

If you like guitars with that old-time look (slotted headstock, wide fretboard, and 12 frets free of the body), then this should suit you. The neck is quite thick as well as wide, like the old originals. Some of the re-issue instruments by major American makers have slimmer contours to suit players more used to 14-fret models, so be aware that this Chinese-made guitar offers quite a handful. The top on the one that I received is not the highest grade of spruce (visually), but it is solid wood and the sound is very nice. It came with a neck adjusting wrench, and I was a bit nervous when tightening it to remove a slight bowing (it creaked ominously). However, I was successful in adjusting the neck so that it had only slight relief when the strings were tuned up to pitch. The frets looked a bit uneven, so I didn't try to get the neck dead-straight, to avoid string buzz. The intonation is good, so the frets are in the right place even if not totally level. If you feel uneasy about doing... Read more

I was looking for a second guitar for open tunings, so I'm not tuning so much. I've played Blueridge guitars before and like them, so when I saw the price on this I couldn't pass it up. I was really surprised by how great it sounds, like a custom! And the set up is perfect for me. I love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Blueridge 371, August 15, 2012
This review is from: Blueridge BR-371 Historic Series 0 Style Parlor Acoustic Guitar (Electronics)
I bought my Blueridge just a few weeks ago. I was looking for a small-bodied guitar with a 'big' sound. I tried out
several Taylors and Martins with a similar body size that were close in price range to the 371, but hands down, the
Blueridge won me over. For one thing, the bass strings have an incredible resonance. While you may not get as much from
the treble strings, overall, this guitar represents a a wonderful playing experience, whether you are finger picking, strumming, or playing for a heavier rhyhtmic output.

I love the small body size of the guitar, but again, don't be fooled that this parlor model will lack depth or that it doesn't have great tonal output because it does.

I did make several changes though to the guitar: I put some lighter Elixir strings on and sanded the bridge, just a bit to improve playability. The slightly lower action on the guitar made it a bit easier to play. My only complaint is that barring chords can be more of... Read more
