Learning how to play Gypsy Jazz music can be discouraging to any any guitarist, let alone a student or beginner. To help bridge this gap, Saga Musical Instruments has added two Cigano models to their Gypsy Jazz guitar lineup. The short scale D-hole model for the rhythm enthusiast and a 14-fret "Small-hole" version popular with soloists and similar to the guitar most often seen in the hands of Django himself. The GJ-10 oval-hole model fills the bill at a very affordable price.

It is a gypsy jazz guitar, so pretty much every guitar player will avoid it because they either know nothing about it or assume it will be junk like the other cheap Django guitars. Well, I've owned all the cheaper models, the Arias, the Stagg, the other no name brands...the Cigano smashes them. This guitar is not junk, it is an exceptionally well made acoustic guitar, right now you can get it for around $330 new if you search for it online. The GJ10 has a superior neck to $1000+ taylor guitars you can see at guitar center, guitars like the 114ce which are one of the best cutaway guitars you can get. This cigano not only feels better, but actually sounds better. This is going to be hard for anyone to believe, a $400 guitar besting an expensive TAYLOR? No way! It turns out to be an excellent guitar. To be fair, I'm no professional, but I know a good guitar when I play one. The sound is beautiful, considering the size of this beauty. The strings are very decent, and the tuning stays accurate after a few days of playing. I have a small hand, so the size is perfect for me. In terms of appearance, it is way more than I expected. The black-paint-finish is top-notch, with the tortoise shell inlay perfectly surrounding the body. It really is a thing of beauty. Finally, shipping. I live in Hawaii, so shipping usually takes a long time. I chose the cheapest option (free shipping) because I was not in a hurry to get the guitar. The estimated arrival time was about the month, which I could live with. Within 3 days, UPS knocked on my door and voila, IT'S HERE! How can you get a better deal than that? The pre-amp has a tuner, so it is quite easy and convenient to stay in tune all the time. Looks very expensive. It has been confused for a graphite composite guitar (priced in the thousands) Most of Luna's guitars have a "girly" appearance to them, this one looks cool with anyone playing it. Out of the triad of guitars I gig with, this is by far the best looking. But the sound is a slightly different story. I'm not really a stickler for guitar tone, but the pickup and EQ on this guitar is not very good, IMO. It is a VERY twangy sounding guitar. I have to turn up the bass all the way to get any low end out of it at all, and it still sounds kind of tinny. The tuner is nice to have, but it bounces around A LOT. If you're close to on tune, it still goes back and forth from sharp to flat, making it hard to have a tuning that is spot on. I end up using it to get close, then tuning by ear. My Ibanez electric (that I don't even play out with) sounds better plugged in, it has a nicer fishman equipped pickup, and a better tuner, and it's... The first thing that I noticed is how beautiful and apearantly perfect this guitar looked, but it also played very well once in tune. This guitar made me hear the differance between a really high quality guitar and an inferior one, yet it was not very expensive. Believe me, I've been looking for the cheapest of all high quality guitar and this is it!!!
