I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a guitar that I was going to be dragging on the plane, in the car and who knows where else which is why the OG1 caught my eye. Now, I'll tell you right off, I didn't buy the OG1 and I'll get to why shortly.First, I want to go over the positives. I went to a local music store who had 4 OG1 guitars in stock. After sitting down with the guitar I found the construction adequate. It wasn't perfect by any means but for a $100 guitar I thought it was pretty good. There were some finish flaws, especially where the neck meets the top by the soundhole. One of the guitars had some flaws in the wood on the sides. But for $100 these were really minor issues (you're not paying $1000 bucks here!) As for the sound, it was surprisingly good for a guitar of this size. It had good projection and a nice clear tone. This one looks sharp in transparent blue. Nice string set up and sounds great. I like the 3/4 size body. Good price from AUSTIN BAZAAR! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Awful sound from bass notes, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Oscar Schmidt OG1TBL 3/4 Size Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar (High Gloss Blue) (Electronics) I was really excited about getting this guitar for my daughter, especially because of all the other great reviews, the Oscar Schmidt reputation, and because she loves the color blue! But when it arrived, I tuned it and tried to play it, and the 3 lowest notes (E, A, D) sounded awful. Basically what I think was happening is that the strings are literally scraping against some piece of metal (possibly a fret bar), so it makes this awful clinking/clanking vibrating sound while the note is playing. It's hard to describe, but I've never heard this kind of noise from any other guitar. I thought that certainly this must be a manufacturing defect, so I exchanged it for another one (exact same brand/model). But the same problem happened with the new guitar that arrived as well. Now I'm not quite sure what to do. I'm really surprised that other folks have commented about how great this guitar sounds. I'm really disappointed. |
